Read, White, and Bleu 2016: Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin

In January, we announced Bas Bleu would be hosting our own 2016 presidential election, with your favorite literary characters as the candidates. We’ve narrowed your nominees down to six teams, and in the months leading up to Election Day in November, we’ll be presenting you with the candidates’ biographies, platform issues, and a schedule of campaign events.

Candidate Bio

Edward “Winnie-the-Pooh” Sanders was born in the Hundred Acre Wood in 1924. Orphaned at a young age, he was adopted by the Milne family of Sussex, England, beginning a lifelong friendship with his future running mate, Christopher Robin. Known affectionately as “Pooh,” he became famous at an early age for his thoughtfulness, friendliness, and steadfast loyalty. Educated alongside Christopher Robin—with whom he loves doing nothing—Pooh was fortunate to enjoy nature’s classroom in Hundred Acre Wood, a privilege he hopes to extend to all children one day. Though he prefers to work for his community behind the scenes, Pooh made headlines several years ago when a flood threatened to destroy his home forest. He risked his life to rescue the endangered woodland creatures with nothing but Christopher Robin’s umbrella and his own four paws. In his spare time, Pooh enjoys writing poetry, eating honey, going on adventures, and think think thinking.

Some people care too much. I think it’s called love.

Issues We Care About

Deforestation
In which our woodlands and waterways must be saved from overdevelopment that decimates our natural resources and accelerates climate change.

Early Childhood Literacy
In which our nation’s children deserve access to books from an early age, to nurture their love of reading and ensure academic success.

Honeybee Colony Collapse
In which honeybee colonies must be protected from pesticides and habitat loss, for the sake of preserving our food supply.

Universal Recess and Summer Camp
In which all schoolchildren shall enjoy daily recess to run and play or even do nothing, as well as a week of summer camp in the wilds of Hundred Acre Wood.

Upcoming Campaign Events

A Little Something
Every morning at 11 a.m., Pooh and Christopher Robin host voters for conversation and “a little something” tasty in Hundred Acre Wood.

Clover-Planting
Did you know? Honeybees love clover! Join us for planting parties every Saturday morning in a neighborhood near you!

Teddy Bear Tea Party
Little bear cubs, piglets, and roos are invited to bring their favorite stuffed friends to a tea party on Galleon’s Leap. Christopher Robin’s dad, Alan, will be on-hand to entertain youngsters with storytime.

  2. Love this idea, however I would have preferred NOT to see comments referring to real life politics. Spoils the purpose of this; in my opinion.

  3. Winnie the Pooh was also my favorite candidate!! I read the books to my kids and now read them to my grandkids. I would love, love, love to see T shirts printed as well as car magnets, or decals. Pooh for Prez!!

  4. Since my job is primarily working in municipal government and local, state and federal elections, I found this to be such a breath of fresh air! These have been trying, and exasperating times and if only………….If only………….our leaders could think this way. Perhaps we should pass this bit of thoughtful, peaceful ideology along to some who think they know all of the answers? Think. Think. Think. 🙂

    • Thanks so much for your comment, Nan, and for your public service. These are trying times, and we’re glad to hear our literary election brightened your day!

    • I have given every election dutiful thought … and my vote did not count for the last twot elections…
I will hopefully vote for Trump… I am for protecting the borders I lost when 500 home sased businesses were shut down… Oh, it is all quiet with the liberal media who have turned left of the left to create a different kind of America, the one thought to bring hope, but left us hopeless…
So, delete if you must, stop me at the polls if you will, I just trust someone who earns money by doing real business…
Where were those elected officials when Clinton enamored a young twenty two year old ? Where was the Secretary of State and the President when Beghazi burnt our men? I didn’t vote for them then and cannot now… ’cause…
’cause a real Friend would not lie the lies that keep on twisting the country into oblivion…
I love Winnie the Pooh… and I think we need to really think about the moral codes that have undermined our society…
Christopher Robin would vote for Trump too…

  5. I love the idea of Pooh & Christopher but have you considered Anne of Green Gables? Or Pippi Longstocking? Just to add a few names to the Female side of the platform…

    • Great ideas, Jenny! We actually had our readers nominate, then narrow down the selection of nominees. Don’t worry, there are several female candidates coming through…

  6. I’m sure Piglet will have an appropriate Cabinet appointment in this administration. Department of Haycorns?

  7. We should have shirts for our candidate, after all, the opposition does! How about the platform printed on the back?

  8. A bear of little brain is a better, more trustworthy, and smarter candidate than most of the humans who are running. T-shirts, please!

  9. Yes! Yes! Yes! Shirts, pleeeeese Pooh.
Lend a hand Rabbit will help! We have a reasonable treasure chest.

  10. We need shirts! Our kids are having a baby this year and their bedroom scheme is Pooh…we need shirts for the campaign! And vinyl cling stickers!!! 🙂
